Floating Monk

Sifu Jeff has trained the Southern Praying Mantis System for almost thirty years.  He is a certified Black Sash Sifu, Enter the Gate Disciple and lifetime student of Grand Master Henry Poo Yee. Sifu Jeff has been an instructor for more than 20 years opening his first school in Atlanta, GA in 1985.

In 1991, Sifu Jeff competed on the international stage with martial artists from fifteen countries on five continents.  At that competition in Houston, Texas, Sifu Jeff won the gold medal for Internal Kung Fu (Chi Kung) as well as silver medals in two additional events.  The following year Sifu Jeff led a group of students of various levels to the same tournament, this time in Orlando, Florida and they too received gold and silver medals in most events.  In 1995 Sifu Jeff returned to college and taught only private students until graduating with a BA in Finance in 1999. 

Returning to competition, at a regional tournament in Atlanta, in 2000 Sifu Jeff again won the gold medal in Chi Kung as well as gold and silver medals in two additional events.  The students and instructors of the Atlanta and Augusta Branch Schools of CKFA also won numerous gold, silver and bronze medals.  Sifu Jeff has instructed traditional classes for many years, but the majority of his time now goes to teaching workshops as well numerous private students, especially those who will be the future instructors of Grand Master Yee’s CKFA as well as “Chi for Health” Chi Kung.

Historically students were required to train for a decade or more before they were allowed to see and train this Chi Kung.  Sifu Jeff is honored to be the first instructor ever allowed by Grand Master Yee to present this unique Chi Kung to the general public.  For over three centuries this Chi Kung was shrouded in secrecy.  

It is Grand Master Yee’s love for humanity and his concern for their health and well being that guided his decision to allow Sifu Jeff to show and teach this Chi Kung to the public for the first time.    Sifu Jeff explains that allowing this Chi Kung to leave the temple after almost three centuries is Grand Master Yee’s gift to the world and an important part of his long and distinguished legacy.

Sifu Jeff is extremely grateful to his Sifu, Grand Master Henry Poo Yee for the endless hours of instruction, for the knowledge he has shared and patience he has shown over two decades of training.  Sifu Jeff wishes to acknowledge that there is no way he can fully repay Grand Master Yee for all of the colorful history, insight and knowledge that he has shared.  However, it is Sifu Jeff’s intention to preserve the history, teaching and traditions of Grand Master Yee and his CKFA linage as a sign of respect and gratitude to his teacher and in recognition to Grand Master Yee’s gifts to mankind.
